Why Outlander chooses Musto

QUALITY WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Outlander Expeditions proudly relies on MUSTO as our primary provider for adventure wear. While not every adventure is extreme, we ensure top-notch performance when conditions become challenging.

Lets talk gear

THE 3-LAYER SYSTEM

Your decision to travel to Antarctica is an exciting one and knowing what to wear can be a little daunting. Outlander Expeditions and MUSTO has prepared a recommended clothing list to ensure that you get the most out of your expedition while travelling in style and comfort.

BASE LAYER

This is the layer that has the most skin contact. It is the first process layer that is responsible for insulating you from the elements by wicking away sweat and perspiration, ensuring that you are warm dry and comfortable. An example of a base layer are thermals (aka long johns) which are availabe in merino wool or synthetic fabrics.

MID LAYER

This layer is responsible for providing an secondary insulating layer and it is the mid layer’s job to take dampness from the base layer and convert it to steam. Warm air is trapped within this layer and any steam is passed through the layer to ensure your body is kept dry while active. A common mid layer example is a polar fleece or microfibre jacket.

OUTER LAYER

Also know as the outer shell, this layer is responsible for expelling the damp steam through a skin-like membrane to ensure you are dry on the inside as well as the outside. The Outer Layer has a waterproof treatment to prevent the outside elements entering your clothing. An example of an outer layer is MUSTO’s BR & Gortex series jackets and pants.
